🧩 Installing Utilities

What to install to run the game and how to fix client crashes.

✔ Up to dateUpdated: 2026-10-11

If the game does not start, closes without an error or crashes, the cause is almost always the antivirus or missing system libraries. Go through the steps in order.

1. Install the system libraries

  • Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable — the x86 versions for 2010 and for 2015–2022. The game client is 32-bit, so you need x86 even on 64-bit Windows.
  • DirectX End-User Runtime — the older DirectX libraries that Windows 10 and 11 do not include by default.
  • .NET Framework 4.8 — required by the launcher.

Download them only from the Microsoft website.

2. Add the game to antivirus exclusions

Windows Defender and third-party antivirus tools often delete or block client and anti-cheat files.

  1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings → Exclusions.
  2. Click Add an exclusion → Folder and choose the game folder.
  3. If files were already removed, restore them from quarantine or unpack the client again.

3. Run as administrator

Start the game through Launcher.exe: right-click → Run as administrator. Do not install the client in Program Files or in folders with non-Latin characters in the path — something like D:\Games\MU works best.

4. Set the resolution and window mode

The client folder has a Scripts directory with ready-made settings files. Double-click a file to apply it:

  • Screen resolution: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x768, 1366x768, 1440x900, 1600x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3440x1440, 3840x2160.
  • Mode: _window_mode.reg for windowed, _fullscreen_mode.reg for fullscreen.
  • Sound: Sound&MusicON.reg and Sound&MusicOFF.reg.

5. If the game is slow

The config.ini file in the client folder lets you turn off some effects: item glow, dynamic and static effects, rendering of wings and map objects. 1 means on, 0 means off. On weaker computers this noticeably raises FPS in large fights.

If nothing helped

Contact server support in Discord and attach the files from the CrashLogs folder in the client — they help find the cause faster.
